Posted: 14 AprilCompared to Tropico 4, I do not like this game. They removed the things I loved about the old game (music, graphics, humor, freedom to play) and made it very generic and more confusing. Building is no longer fun - too many small objectives dictating what you do, everything looks bland, map overlays are difficult to read and the characters are no longer funny. Returning to the same two islands each time is an interesting idea, and fine for a few missions. But I enjoyed starting fresh with new island conditions and challenges each time. It gets boring to just keep reconfiguring the same few islands.
Tropico 5 cuts out the fat of previous entries and builds upon its strongest features. While the new dynasty system is disappointing, the narrative context provided by eras and world events is outstanding. 4.5 / 5 stars Nathan Heller GamesRadar+. Not a dramatic reinvention, but still an enjoyable game of construction, economics and election.
I have instead downloaded all the additional content for Tropico 4 and continue to play that game instead. It is much more entertaining.
There are a lot of neat ideas in version 5 (research, constitution, eras, etc.), I wish they would have used them to update version 4. The soul seems to be sucked out of Tropico 5.
